Wiitard

Wii Launch

So it started just shortly after watching the 'early' showing of Borat last night (which I might add is one of the most funniest movies I've seen this year). Bedroom scene = WTH?!

But lets get to the point. After the movie, I though i'd drive by the Futureshop/Bestbuy at Lansdowne Mall in Richmond to see 'if any' lineup for the Nintendo Wii. As imagined, there was already people lined up in tents, sleeping bags, etc etc. Bestbuy had 57 units at that located with already about 40ppl in lineup. Even a quick driveby Superstore had 15 units, and a full lineup. Went home, figured I'd crash and buy Wii in a week or so when there come back in stock.

But at about 11:30pm I started chatting online with Div about the Wii, and the campers. We both wanted one, but weren't keen on camping outside mainly for the fact that we didn't want to go alone. But would we go if we both went? And why? For the experience? Sure why not? You only live once, so you might as well make the best of it.

So at 11:45pm Div heads off to check out the lineup at the Coquitlam FS near his house. Calls me around 12ish, saying that he is 43rd in line, and they have 60 units. Long store short, about 10 mins later I grabbed some sleeping bags, tons of warm clothing, old ass (but comfortable) Ikea beach chairs rotting in the backyard, and did the normal 1hr drive (but 40mins with no traffic) out to Coquitlam Centre Mall, Futureshop.

Not only were there tents, but TV's with power. Xbox. Movies. Tents and tarps. Several Nintendo DS to play multiplayer. As the father next to us in line said, or should I say his wife, "you guys are Wiitards". This was after he left the lineup at 3am to go get a combo TV/dvd player for us to watch a movie.

So with very little shuteye (maybe a hour a the most), several games of Halo, Timmy Ho, Starbucks and Blenz, we finally got our tickets at 8:30am to confirm ONE Nintendo Wii console out of the 60 they had in total. And at 10am, they finally let us in to grab our glory.

Was it worth it? But of course. After only a few minutes of play, the long all nighter was totally worth it. The Wii is really a totally different gaming experience , and will only get better over time. Of course, it wouldn't of been a day without the original Wii pose. Okay I made that up. Time for bed. zzzzzzzzz wiiiiiii........
