Who Dey? Been a while...
... since my last update. So lets see..
Last monday I finished my photography course. It was a pretty relaxed class, and we just went over pictures that we had all taken over the course of the... course. It was nice to get feedback from everyone else in the class, as well as the teacher. Shannon really liked the skytrain pictures I had taken.
I spoke with 2 of the girls in my class about the Intermediate course that is starting next month. They were already signed up for it and were asking if I was joining. The only problem is that a dSLR is required. Later on in the week I got a email from one of the girls (Kaitlin) saying that herself along with the other girl (Emma) and a few of their friends were going dSLR shopping on the weekend, and wanted to see if I wanted to join them in the hopes of getting a good deal at one retailer.
Saturday I ended up at Leo's Camera at about 12:45pm. Once everyone came, there was in total 5 of us interested in buying a camera, but believe it or not, Leo's did NOT want to move on their pricing at all. The sales guy kept saying "I don't work on commission, so it doesn't matter if you buy one, or 5". Hmmm... so I replied with "so you're happy with us walking out of here and buying elsewhere?" and although I didn't say it, I should of said "what would your manager think?". But luckily I didn't have to. He went to the back, called up his manager, and worked up some pretty steady pricing. Still 2g+ is a lotto blow, but the camera I'm interested in (Canon 20d w/ 17-85mm) is simply amazing.
In the end Kaitlin ended up buying the 20d as well and the rest of them bought the Rebel XT Kit. I walked out with nothing, however the pricing is still there for me. I did drop by Blacks, and wanted to see if they would 'unoffically' pricematch and they actually agreed to. So I'm tossing up where to buy from. 1yr extended warrenty for only $99 from Blacks as well as a 60 day price protection is pretty sweet if the price ever drops down (which I'm hoping after the big photography exhibition in Feb '06).
Needless to say all the hagglin' at Leo's took 3 hrs, and I didn't leave till 3:45pm. Exhausting, but I learnt a ton (their sales people are VERY knowledgable) and I got to play with the 20d for a solid 1-2 hrs, with a variety of lens (L series!).
To make things tougher, I signed up for the Intermediate course, as I wanted to secure the 10% discount for the course, so this means that a dSLR is now NEEDED not wanted.
Hmmm xmas, and bday coming shortly, if anyone is short on ideas, $$$ is highly recommended ;)

On another note, the Linzes won the Amazing Race. Given this wasn't the best one (next season looks MUCH better with them actually going internationally again), it was a pretty good race. I'm glad the team I wanted to win since day 1 actually won.
Thank god the Weaver family didn't bring in second place. To think that they didn't know what language was spoken in Toronto (they thought that people only speak French in Toronto) says SOOO much about some Americans. sigh... time for bed!
